Hello all at Sacred Heart - My name is Yvonne Keegan and I am doing research on my family. Through this I got in contact with a cousin I never met in America. Our great - grandparents were married in your Chapel.
Joseph Keegan and Cathrine Smith, the date of marriage was 6/8/1897 and Daniel O'Sullivan was the Priest who married them. By looking at your web page they must have married in the old building.
I just thought that I would share that with you and to let you know that I will visit some time for Mass. God Bless - Yvonne Keegan
THIS IS JUST THE GREATEST!!!I knew my family attended S.H. but never thought I'd find anything on the internet let alone this..pictures,history WOW!My grandda Pat McGinniss rec"d a medal for his services in the S.H.League (not sure what that was) in 1907.Dad, James attended S.H. boys school(ChristianBros?) and was altar boy at S.H.Family attended S.H. and lived somewhere in vicinity early 1900's My dad James was born 1905.Had 12 bros. & sisters several died very young. Half of family came to U.S. 1927, rest followed few years later. Is there any group or organization that can help w/family history?I'am sure most in your archives. My cousins & I have lost or forgotten so much. AGAIN, THANK YOU FOR THIS FANTASTIC WEB SITE,GOD BLESS Mary C. Marano McGinniss West Orange,NJ,USA
I don't know how I discovered your website, but I did and thoroughly enjoyed viewing all the photo's and history of the parish.
Both my wife and I were educated at the Sacred Heart school and lived in the area and of course attended the Church and attended many of the services and functions. Anne and I were married in the Church in 1957 by Fr.McKeown and shortly afterwards in 1961 left Bridgeton and moved to Toronto, Canada were we have been ever since. We have visited Glasgow many times since then and always include a visit to the Sacred Heart ( the last time we were there must have been five years ago) The photo's of the Church especially since your renovations look great.
I will try to dig out some pictures from the time we lived there and send them to you if you are interested. Bye for now Anne and Joe O'Neill
During the last hour or so I have been viewing your lovely web site. I emailed the parish for information on my grandparents and mother and thought I would include a tid bit as told to me by mother.
Her name, Theresa Bradley Hughes.
Mother was Baptized at Sacred Heart and attended school there. She told me the school was segregate, boys from the girls. Even the playground had a fence dividing the two groups.
She also told me they had a wonderful children's choir, she was a member and soloist. She would have attended school approximately 1907/8 to 1912 or 13 when the family followed my grandfathers to Toronto Canada.
As I said, just a tid bit
Hi,
What a wonderful website! Researching my family tree, I discovered that my grandmother, Elizabeth Hardy Dickson was born in Bridgeton (although her parents came from Northern Ireland), and she married my grandfather, John McCue at The Sacred Heart Church in Bridgeton in 1917. Unfortunately both my grandparents died before I was born so I don't have any stories from them. So, it was lovely to see you website, especially with all the photographs of the era, as my grandparents also lived on Dalmarnock Road at one time.
Kind regards, Michelle
I was looking through the web sites to download a novena to the Sacred Heart for a friend, when my eagle-eyed mum ( 86 yrs.) spotted your site. Mum was a parishioner of St. Mary's Abercrombie St., and attended Sacred Heart school. She was thrilled to look at the photographs old & new on the web pages and needless to say it will be a talking point for the next few family visits. As a point of interest Fr. my mum's grandfather a Joseph Peak from St. Helen's in Lancashire who was a convert to the church composed a mass in honour of Mary Magdelene. According to mum, he was the first person to be buried from Sacred Heart and parts of his mass were sung at his requiem.
Thank you, on behalf of my mum. It has filled up her day, and a promise that we will pay a visit to Sacred Heart & St. Mary's the next time we are down in Glasgow.
Yours sincerely
Peter Murphy

I attended Sacred Heart Primary School before our family emigrated to Canada in 1966. My brother, Henry, and I were 8 years old at the time. Do you retain school records from that long ago? I'd be interested in showing my children these records,if available. |

I emigrated to Canada in 1969. Although I was not a parishioner of Sacred Heart (Went to St. Agnes, Lambhill) I have just visited your website and have spent the past hour going over the various pages. Your website is excellent and has loads of good pictures, information and must bring back a lot of good memories for your parishioners and former parishioners. This is certainly a good site also for anybody who is researching their family tree.
Good to see the various positive comments. Keep up the good work...
God Bless

My name is Theresa (Richardson) Weir. I now live in California. Born and raised in Norman St, til I was 12 - 1963 then we moved to Muslin St, I have wonderful memories of Bridgeton the greatest place on earth. I went to Sacred Heart school and then to Pirn St school. My brother Robert went to St Mungos I was baptized and had my 1st holy communion there. I remember a lovely Irish priest father Austin Ruan I used to copy his Irish accent. I love your website and have been trying for years to get photos of Norman St, anything will do and I would love to email and contact anyone from there especially those who remember me. As for Daniel Brogan he probably remembers my mother and family they were named Reilly. Owen, Robert, Theresa, Christina and Agnes. Robert and Agnes were twins. I was home several years ago and went to Bridgeton I with my friend Carol Cairns also from Norman St. Took photos of the chapel, and my old street which is no more except for Gelfers tie factory where we played balls. Would love to here from anyone. My email address is

Bless you for this website.
